A native Chicagoan, Dwayne was born the eighth child to Julious & Barbara Lee. Born into a large family of singers, he began singing at a very young age. He was so young in fact that his first appearances where on top of a milk crate, to allow the audiences to see as well as hear him. He is in the 3rd of 4 generations at the Apostolic Church of God, where the Bishop Arthur M. Brazier is pastor. The Church is located at 6320 South Dorchester in Chicago, IL. Dwayne Lee is known for his professional statue and powerful delivery whether for Sunday Services at his home Church or any other appearances.
His Tenor Virtuoso voice showcases a wide range of vocal talents; his diverse style touches the heart of his listeners, helping them to submit to the will of God. He has been labeled the "Gospel Balladeer" by his peers because of his style. There is something special about Dwayne’s music ministry that, once it has been heard, it leaves an indelible impression on its audience.
Dwayne's vocal talents and music ministry continue to take him to new and challenging places. Dwayne made his acting debut as "Uncle Eli" in a play titled "War of the Spirits." Dwayne continues to travel state to state singing at various concert venues, congregational worship services and the like. He toured London to raving reviews introducing his then current CD "Victorious Praise." He appeared with such Gospel & Jazz Greats as Babbie Mason, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Whalum and the 3 More Tenors. He also recorded with the famous music director/ composer/ arranger Tim Janis. He has done media interviews on local and international television shows such as "Artbeat Chicago," Revelation TV (in London, England), "Chicago Tonight" on WTTW’s Channel 11 where he was declared "The Gospel Balladeer." Dwayne also sang live on WMMB's Channel 2 morning news as "NEWS." In November 2000 he released his first solo project entitled "God's Gift / My Praise," which gave birth to an ever growing fan base. The track "Deliverer" from that freshman release remained at the top of the charts locally for several weeks and is still a favorite around the nation and abroad.
Dwayne toured in Italy for the ever-popular Umbria Jazz festival and was featured on the nationally televised New Year's Day Mass services at Duomo Cathedral in Orvieto, Italy. In his younger days he toured the United States extensively with the Dillard University Concert Choir and their Male Quartet and is a featured soloist on that choir's very popular recording. Dwayne has shared the stage with such musical legends as Ms. Nancy Wilson, the Winans, Yolanda Adams, Andre Crouch, Richard Smallwood, Tramaine Hawkins, Inez Andrews, the Barrett Sisters, Albertina Walker, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Whalum, Jennifer Holiday, and many more.
He has lent his voice to projects of other artists such as Kim Stratten's first music video; the Reverend Jackie McCullough's "This Is For You Lord" CD release (singing lead vocals on the track "I'm Not Finished"); on the Brooklyn Tabernacle's Grammy nominated CD release "Light of the World" (singing lead on the title track "Light of the World" and duet on "His Plan"). He was guest soloist three years running in Chicago's own "Classic Black" performances. He has performed with both the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra. He was a featured artist for Christmas Glory (an Emmy nominated program recorded live from his home church). Dwayne has also opened for the world renowned Chicago Gospel Festival and many other festivals in the US and abroad.
But most importantly Dwayne can be seen most Sunday mornings singing praises to God on the televised services from his home church, where for many years he has served as one of their lead vocalists. He firmly believes that Gospel Music Ministry plays a vital part in the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these last days. It was this belief that prompted him to start Psalms 27 Music Ministry, Inc. A music ministry dedicated to taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the four corners of the earth. This ministry has ordinary people empowered by God to do extraordinary things. God has ordained Dwayne to be a trump in Zion, to declare the goodness of the Lord, and to set at liberty those that are bound through the ministry of Gospel Music. Thus "Dwayne" means to sing.
Look for him at a venue near you as he continues to sing the praises in honor of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
